Newborn Photography

Newborns are newborns for what seems like a second. While you spend the first few weeks staring lovingly at your new baby, they change right before your eyes. That is why l love to capture all it is that makes them newborns....those wrinkles and teeny eyelashes, fingers and toes, hairy shoulders and ears....all the things you so easily forget as they grow.

lt is because they change so fast that these sessions are best done within 2 weeks of birth. Baby remains sleepy and curly at this age, allowing me to try all the poses that make them look so new and adorable. Much past 2 weeks, and baby wakes more easily while being posed.

Upon your enquiry l will send you an information pack with information about the shoot, what to expect, and how you can prepare. It will also contain information on how to pay the booking fee of £40 which is required to secure your place, should you wish to go ahead with the booking. Your booking is secured using your due date.

Once your baby arrives you can then schedule your session.

The shoot takes place in my newborn studio at my home.

The session is done in the morning, will go at baby’s pace, and will take up to 4 hours if that’s what it takes, to create images of your bundle that go beyond a portrait.

After the session we arrange a day for you to come back to view your images. You will also be able to look at the range of excellent products for you to display your chosen images, ranging from simple prints, to canvases, framed images, and digital copies. Prices are superb value, and will preserve your treasured images to the highest possible standard.

One your viewing session is complete, images can be hosted on a secure online gallery for friends and family to view, and also purchase products via the site.

A full product and price list is available on request.

The newborn photography shoot is £85 and includes:

NEWBORN FAQ

l get asked a lot of questions about the newborn sessions and how they work, so I have attempted to answer the most common ones here. If you have any other, please do get in touch.

WHY DO I HAVE TO BOOK IN ADVANCE?

It's very simple really...I get busy very quickly sometimes, and often do not have spaces to fit new mums in who have not been able to book. l hate turning people away, so please do book after your 12 week scan.

WILL YOU BE HANDLING MY BABY?

Yes, l will be cuddling soothing and posing your baby the entire session, handing him back to you if l feel he needs you. At any point in the session you are free of course, to ask me to hand him back.

DO I NEED TO BRING ANYTHING?

Yes please. Bring enough for extra feeds, and your usual nappy supply. Other than that l have everything l need. Do let me know if you have your own prop ideas....its your session, so l'd love to see what you have in mind, and if possible, give it a try for you.

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY BABY CRIES AND WON'T SLEEP?

This is normal for at least some of the sesison. On occasion l don't take a single photo for an hour. Each session involves settling baby when you arrive, and sometimes this takes 2 minutes, and sometimes it takes longer. Your baby is likely to wake and need a top up feed too, and l'll just pop the kettle on while you feed. l may even get the cookies out.

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY BABY MAKES A MESS ON YOUR THINGS?

This is so normal, l'm amazed when it DOESN'T happen. All my throws are washed, and yes, l go through a lot of stain remover. Babies pee and poop when they need to, and so l am used to it. l don't wear my Sunday best for the sessions.

IS YOUR STUDIO SAFE?

Yes is the simple answer. Your baby's saftey is my top priority. Nothing will be done to put your baby at risk at any time. The images you see where baby is in a tub, on a swing or hanging from a branch are all done using clever editing trickery to avoid putting your baby in harms way. Some set ups and poses will involve your giving me a helping hand to keep baby safe.

CAN I BRING MY OTHER CHILDREN TO THE SESSION?

The studio is in what was my dining room, and so is not very big. l can not, therefore, accomodate your other children l'm afraid. However, l LOVE doing the sibling shots, and l'm sure you'd love them too....so, if you would like to do this, let me know.

CAN WE DO THE SESSION IN THE AFTERNOON?

No. Your baby is likely to have had you up half the night, and so will usually then sleep well in the morning. Baby must be sleepy to pose, so if you bring him in the afternoon when he has been sleeping for hours, this is more difficult.

WHY DOES THE SESSION TAKE SO LONG?

The session is a very calm, slow, gentle and laid back affair. Your baby runs the show...and l cannot make a baby do what he doesn't want to do...so the session involves lots of quiet gentle soothing to get the best poses. Rushing the session would not work, and l will take as long as it needs. lf you have an appointment on the day, please consider reschuduling me. Clock watching creates stress, and stress will scupper the session.

CAN I ASK YOU TO DO A CERTAIN POSE OR SET UP?

You can ask to use any prop you see in the studio...thats the beauty of you coming to the me...... its all here for you to choose from. When it comes to requestion poses, like for example, using a container, or a sling, it's not quite that simple. Not all babies are suitable for these shots. l will judge if your baby would be happy to try these poses on the day, but his safety comes first, so l am never able to guarantee to do any specific pose for you.
